Edelweiss

Yesterday I was organizing my stuff and sorting out the things I must transfer from Pieter's study room to my hobby room. I saw this frame my mother in-law gave me which I thought it's perfect for these dried edelweiss. The edelweiss from the left is 60+ yrs old, my parents in-law gave it to me. My father in-law plucked it when he was young. The small one is mine I plucked it in Switzerland last year.

Edelweiss - The common name comes from German edel, meaning "noble", and weiß (also spelled weiss) "white", thus signifying "noble whiteness". The flower is often found at very high altitudes of 1700 to 2700 meters and grows in small gaps between rocky crags on the cliff face. During World War II German soldiers of the Gebirgsjäger Infantry Alpine Divisions used to climb the mountains to collect an Edelweiss flower so that they could wear it on their uniforms.

Edelweiss is actually a protected species it is forbidden to pick them. I know I'm bad. You can check more Switzerland, Montreux photos in my other blog.
